COLLABORATIVE NETWORK FOR MICROPLASTIC MONITORING

Our Blue Hands -  Ocean Conservation

The Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD-indicator 10.1.3) the EU prescribes a mandatory monitoring of microplastics (Zarfl et al. 2011), and the EU Technical Subgroup on Marine Litter (TSG-ML) proposed a standardized monitoring strategy for microplastics in the EU (Hanke et al. 2013). Our Blue Hands is adapting and replicating the methodology and monitoring in Brazil and Cape Verde

UBATUBA - ITAMAMBUCA BEACH

The partnership with the Itamambuca Environmental Management Plan

During August 2021 the Project fell on the road and ended up on the north coast of São Paulo. One of the most beautiful and preserved beaches in the region and we made a successful training with PGA Itamambuca. Monitoring in the region is taking place every two weeks and we already have plans for next year a new episode, now with Results.

A partnership for data collection in Guanabara Bay, an urbanized region that is extremely vulnerable to macro and microplastic pollution.

BEACH CLEANING ILHA ANHATOMIRIM - PARLEY BRAZIL

The Our Blue Hands project participated with the International Organization Parley Brazil, a beach cleaning action on one of the uninhabited islands,

There were 25 participants (Representative Parley + Collaborators and volunteers)

>> We collected a total of 56,890 kg of waste in ~1h and a half of action, preventing them from causing more damage to marine life and the entire food chain that sustains itself from the oceans (which includes us humans).  🦀 🐳🙌

DEEP BLUE AMBIENTAL PARTNERSHIP

NGO Deep Blue Ambiental is our oldest supporter and started monitoring at the first points in Itajaí and still remains super active. The monitoring takes place in three points of Itajaí and currently the project has partnered with Univali assisting students who need an internship time. Thus, oceanography, environmental management and environmental engineering courses can benefit and help in ocean conservation.
